Education & Training

The Connections for Healthy Aging Collaborative provides education and training to help adults, students, communities, and organizations better understand and address social disconnection.

Community Education

We offer presentations and workshops on the public-health impact of social disconnection (i.e., social isolation and loneliness), including common risks, barriers to connection, and practical solutions. We also share strategies to help organizations create or strengthen programs that promote meaningful social connections for older adults.

Student Education

We provide lecture-based and hands-on training for students and trainees on:

  • Social isolation, loneliness, and mental health
  • Screening for social connection needs
  • Having difficult conversations and recognizing concerns about suicidality
  • Trust-building and person-centered communication
  • Social prescribing and connecting older adults with community resources

Hands-on training gives students an opportunity to apply what they learn through practical, relationship-centered engagement strategies.

Training Guidelines

Our trainings are educational and do not replace clinical assessment, mental-health treatment, crisis intervention, or emergency procedures. Participants should follow their organization’s policies and professional responsibilities.
