Geriatric Medicine Fellowship

Overview

Welcome! Our fellowship is a nurturing and supportive program. We want our fellows to explore their interests and grow their skills, individually and with others. Our faculty are hands-on and invested in bi-directional teaching and learning as we care for diverse populations. We offer a variety of clinical, research, educator, and service experiences. Despite being part of the largest medical center in the world, we are a close-knit, loving group who looks forward to welcoming you and your family!

Our fellowship program is a one-year clinical track with two to three positions per year. Fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), our program meets the board certification requirements in Geriatric Medicine set forth by both the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM).

The primary aim of the Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program of McGovern Medical School at UTHealth is to advance trainees already skilled in Family Practice and Internal Medicine in Geriatric Medicine through a diverse interdisciplinary program.

Trainees acquire the experience necessary to deliver a comprehensive, patient-centered approach to improve older adults’ wellness and independence. Fellows have the opportunity to receive additional training in clinical or basic research and quality improvement research from well-qualified Geriatric Medicine specialists.

Nobody grows old merely by living a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals. Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.
