Gastrointestinal Fellowship

Gastrointestinal Fellowship Director Erin Rubin

Fellowship Director: Dr. Erin Rubin

The Department of Pathology offers a one-year Gastrointestinal, Hepatic, and Pancreatobiliary Fellowship focused on the comprehensive study of neoplastic and non-neoplastic diseases of the GI tract. Fellows gain in-depth experience in gastrointestinal pathology, native and transplant hepatopathology, and diseases of the gallbladder, biliary tract, and pancreas in both adult and pediatric patients.

With a strong commitment to education, our faculty actively engage fellows in clinical conferences, medical student and housestaff teaching, and hands-on training with modern molecular biology techniques. Research is a key component of the fellowship, with abundant opportunities to collaborate on impactful projects with our expert faculty.

Gastrointestinal Fellowship Training Overview:

Fellows take an active role in supervising Pathologist Assistants and residents during grossing, while also previewing slides, constructing pathology reports, and collaborating closely with attending pathologists through cooperative learning. They are deeply involved in intraoperative consultations, ensuring real-time diagnostic support. Beyond daily responsibilities, fellows engage in clinical-pathological conferences, tumor boards, and resident teaching, enhancing both their knowledge and leadership skills. For those seeking additional responsibility, the fellowship also offers the potential for independent sign-out privileges, providing a valuable opportunity for professional growth.
