Past Deans

From its founding in 1970, McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston has been shaped by a succession of visionary deans whose leadership helped establish the institution as one of the nation’s leading academic medical centers. Beginning with founding dean Cheves McCord Smythe, MD, each dean has guided the school through periods of significant growth in medical education, scientific discovery, patient care, and community service.
