Biography

Dr. Carlos R. Manrique graduated from the Pontificia Javeriana University in Bogota, Colombia where he earned his medical degree. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Jacobi Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine (AECOM) and his clinical fellowships in cardiovascular diseases at Montefiore Medical Center/AECOM in New York. He also completed a fellowship in cardio-oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, and a fellowship in advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.

 

Dr. Manrique is American board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular diseases, and advanced heart failure, and transplant cardiology. Currently, he is an assistant professor in the Department of medicine in the Center for Advanced Cardiopulmonary Therapies and Transplantation at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston). His clinical and research interests include acute and chronic heart failure, cardiovascular diseases related to cancer and cancer therapies, cardiogenic shock, the use of percutaneous mechanical assist devices in the management of cardiogenic shock and acute heart failure, and ventricular assist device therapy complications. He is focusing on the development of the Cardio-Oncology program. He has authored numerous journal articles and book chapters on cardiology-related topics. Dr. Manrique is fluent in Spanish and English.
