Dr. Hui, Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery, is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon with a clinical focus on coronary artery bypass grafting, valvular heart disease, and aortic surgery including aortic root and arch surgery. Her passion is to continually improve patient’s lives and outcomes through collaborative approaches to patient care, and through community education on the prevention and treatment of heart disease. She is pleased and honored to join the UTHealth Houston community and its legacy of providing excellence in care to cardiothoracic patients.
Dr. Hui obtained her medical degree and general surgery residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, followed by cardiothoracic surgical training at The University of Southern California. She is an active member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and American Association for Cardiothoracic Surgery with over 100 peer-reviewed publications and commentaries, as well as presenting at international and national cardiothoracic meetings. Dr. Hui is an Associate Editor for The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, an Academic Editor for the journal Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, and an Editorial Board Member of the Annals of Thoracic Surgery. She has also served on the Board of the American Heart Association (San Antonio Chapter) and the STS PAC Board of Directors to promote advocacy for cardiothoracic surgery.
A native of Texas, she is a graduate of The Juilliard School and was briefly a professional violinist before changing careers. Since 2012, she has been blessed to be married to Justin Wirpel, CEO of Flooring OS. She enjoys reading, cooking, and spending time with her husband, daughter, and extended family in Houston.
