Too often, global health engagement are merely “medical tourism” activities that do not serve local needs. For decades, AMPATH has employed a different approach based on mutual respect, mutual benefit and enhancing local capacity for high-quality care. This presentation described the AMPATH model and how it’s been implemented to improve health outcomes in East Africa while also benefiting U.S. trainees, faculty, and institutions.
