Message from the Former Dean

Hello,

Thank you for your interest in global health.

I have a personal interest in this field. I was fortunate to be able to expand my world view by working in Bangladesh in child health in the 1980s. I saw first-hand the effects of the social determinants on health. I found myself caring for women and children in a place that while only a plane ride away harkened back to a healthcare landscape that the United States had not experienced since the turn of the 20th century. Low-tech interventions, such as immunizations, have since made substantial gains in the healthcare of the Bangladesh people.

The value of a global health experience is personal, but I learned that positive change can be made. The healthy children and families are the living proof. There is ample opportunity for you to be of service around the world.

Thank you for carrying the McGovern flag across the globe.

Warm regards,

Barbara
