As an integral part of the Shame Resilience Through Self-Compassion elective, Tomás DaVee, MD, Associate Professor, is helping shape a more emotionally resilient generation of medical students at McGovern Medical School.
Co-directed by Gioconda Mojica, MD, and Rex Marco, MD, the innovative course offers a safe, reflective space for students to explore vulnerability, professional identity, and the role of shame in medical training. Grounded in the research of Kristin Neff, PhD, the curriculum incorporates mindfulness, guided self-compassion practices, and small-group discussions.
Early results show improved self-compassion scores among participants, highlighting the program’s positive impact on emotional well-being and professional sustainability.
