Dr. Jay Gavvala is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in neurology and clinical neurophysiology. He specializes in treatment of drug-resistant epilepsy, including surgical and stimulation-based therapies, stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG), critical care EEG, and magnetencephalography (MEG).

Dr. Gavvala received his medical degree at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, after completing his Master of Science in Clinical Investigation at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He completed residency training in neurology at Northwestern’s Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, where he was chief resident. He went on to complete a clinical fellowship in neurophysiology/intraoperative monitoring at the same institution.

He joins McGovern Medical School and UTHealth Houston Neurosciences from Baylor College of Medicine. He has published widely in his specialty, with articles in the Journal of Clinical Neurophysiology, Epilepsy and Behavior, Epilepsia, JAMA, and Epileptic Disorders, among others. He is an active member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Clinical Neurophysiology Society, and American Epilepsy Society, and serves on the professional advisory board for the Epilepsy
Foundation of Texas.

Dr. Gavvala’s research interests include MEG, high-frequency oscillations (HFOs), and EEG education.
