Kathleen Atkins

Senior Support Specialist

Kathleen Atkins first began working at McGovern Medical School in 1986 and tried retiring in 2010, but we wouldn’t let her go. As the senior support specialist, Kathy is always ready to assist clients with a smile and is known around the Office of Communications as the Queen of Chartfield Strings and the official Office Decorator. She has more than 20 years of experience as an executive assistant in the Department of Surgery and the Division of Plastic Surgery and is regarded as a go-to source of knowledge for all things Medical School. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Kathy’s family first moved to Houston when she was 4 years old and she has a daughter and numerous nieces and nephews here and another daughter who lives in Dallas. She is currently working on her associate’s degree in Business at Lone Star College.

When she isn’t serving as the part-time, front-line resource at the office, Kathy enjoys participating in Fall craft shows, painting and decorating landscape timber reindeer, snowmen, pilgrims, and other pieces, and writing poetry. She enjoys anything Tex-Mex and her favorite movies are Gone With The Wind and The Way We Were.
