Biography

Dr. Ahmad Kheirkhah is an ophthalmologist specializing in ocular surface at the Robert Cizik Eye Clinic and associate professor in the Ruiz Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston.

Dr. Kheirkhah received his medical degree from Ahvaz Jundishapur University of the Medical Sciences in Iran, and then completed his residency and clinical fellowship in ophthalmology at Iran University of Medical Sciences.

After a three-year research fellowship in ocular surface disease in Miami, he served as an instructor at Harvard Medical School in the Department of Ophthalmology, and then an adjunct scientist at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. His research and clinical care specialties have been focused on cornea and ocular surface disorders, including dry eye disease, ocular burns, and conjunctival cicatricial disorders.

Prior to joining the Cizik Eye Clinic in fall 2023, Dr. Kheirkhah worked as the medical director and director of cornea services at the UTHealth Science Center at San Antonio Department of Ophthalmology, where he held the Stanley I. Glickman, MD, Endowed Chair.

Dr. Kheirkhah has published more than 120 peer-reviewed papers and made presentations at numerous national and international conferences. He holds several patents and is a recipient of several prestigious awards, including the Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is fluent in English and Persian.

Collaboration with Referring Physicians

Physicians at the Robert Cizik Eye Clinic engage referring physicians in the care of their patients, keeping them informed about patient progress throughout the evaluation and treatment process. After a patient’s treatment, referring physicians receive a summary and a plan for follow-up. Our physicians encourage continued communication about each patient.
