Drouilhet Visiting Professorship in Ophthalmology
Presented by the Ruiz Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, the Adrien and Gladys Drouilhet Visiting Professorship in Ophthalmology brings some of the nation’s foremost leaders in ophthalmology to share groundbreaking insights.
The Adrien and Gladys Drouilhet Visiting Professorship in Ophthalmology supports the Ruiz department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at McGovern Medical School. John H. Drouilhet, MD, and Adrien F. Drouilhet III, PhD, established the endowment in 2000 to honor their parents, Adrien and Gladys, who instilled in their sons a strong sense of family and duty to the common good.
Dr. John Drouilhet is a specialist in the field of vitreoretinal surgery and completed his residency and fellowship from McGovern Medical School. His brother, Dr. Adrien Drouilhet III, is a retired education consultant.
The brothers envisioned a sustainable educational resource for students, faculty, and researchers in the Ruiz Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. Originally established as a lecture series, the endowment was elevated to a visiting professorship with the purpose of bringing a noted ophthalmic clinician or vision scientist as a visiting professor to campus.
The next lecture will be a two-day event on April 9-10, 2026.
