Vision Research Group

The Vision Research Group at McGovern Medical School is a highly collaborative community of faculty members with shared interests in translational vision science and its application to major blinding eye diseases. Most faculty are based in the Ruiz Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, with additional members in other departments and schools at UTHealth Houston. We also collaborate closely with investigators at Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Houston.

We are currently developing a proposal for an NEI Vision Core Grant (P30), a collaborative initiative designed to provide shared core equipment, facilities, and services to support vision research at UTHealth Houston. The proposed Vision Core will consist of three modules: ocular phenotyping, imaging, and single-cell analyses. In addition to its basic research programs, the department of ophthalmology conducts numerous ongoing clinical trials and patient-based clinical studies, which are led by faculty investigators and coordinated through our clinical research center.
