Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and Shoulder Fellowship

The UTHealth Houston Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and Shoulder Fellowship, offered through McGovern Medical School’s Department of Orthopedic Surgery, is a one-year, ACGME-accredited orthopedic fellowship designed to train the next generation of leaders in sports medicine and shoulder surgery. While based in the Texas Medical Center, fellows rotate through multiple affiliated hospitals and high-volume peripheral clinical sites throughout the Houston area, gaining diverse operative experience across varied practice settings. This comprehensive fellowship provides advanced training in arthroscopic and open surgical techniques of the shoulder and knee, including rotator cuff repair, shoulder instability, labral pathology, ACL reconstruction, multiligament knee injuries, cartilage restoration, and complex sports-related conditions.

This multidisciplinary sports medicine fellowship emphasizes collaboration with musculoskeletal radiology, athletic training, physical therapy, and sports concussion specialists to deliver comprehensive, evidence-based patient care. Fellows also participate in both basic science and clinical research, developing the academic foundation necessary for careers in academic orthopedic surgery, team physician roles, or high-volume private practice.
