Program Overview
The applying year’s class will consist of four fellows whose education and training will be overseen by 5 full-time faculty and 9 additional faculty members. Dr. Steven Flores serves as the Fellowship Program Director.
Our fellowship offers an in-depth experience in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and Shoulder and is intended to provide fellows with the skills and knowledge to further their development as a Sports Medicine physician and surgeon. In addition to a high patient volume, including athletes from all levels of competition, a strong emphasis is placed on team coverage specifically high school, collegiate, and professional sports. Throughout the year, fellows will be exposed to surgical and non-surgical treatment of various conditions ranging from young teenage athletes to weekend warriors. In addition, fellows will have significant exposure to shoulder arthroplasty and hip arthroscopy to further their skill set as practicing physicians. The philosophy of the program is to develop and promote Orthopaedic Sports Medicine through patient care, education, and research.
The Sports Medicine Fellowship provides a broad clinical and surgical exposure to shoulder, elbow, hip and knee injuries and conditions in athletes and active lifestyle patients. Some of the surgical conditions that fellows will participate in are knee arthroscopy, primary and revision knee ACL, PCL and multiligament reconstruction, meniscal transplant, osteochondral transplant, slope and alignment correction osteotomy, shoulder arthroscopy, thrower shoulder management, primary and revision shoulder capsule labrum repair, bone loss instability management, primary and revision rotator cuff repair, anatomic and reverse shoulder arthroplasty, elbow arthroscopy, thrower and traumatic collateral ligament repair and reconstruction, hip arthroscopy, FAI management, primary and revision hip labrum repair and hip preservation.
Our chair, Dr. Walter Lowe, has built a world-class faculty. The program prides itself in assuring that its faculty are trained to be the best educators possible.
