Dr. Elias Chamely was born in Florida and raised on the island of Trinidad in the Caribbean. After completing high school, he moved to Dublin, Ireland, where he attended medical school at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Following graduation, he worked in Dublin as a surgical trainee before relocating to the United States to continue his surgical training.
Dr. Chamely spent two years training at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia before moving to Houston, Texas. He subsequently completed three years of surgical training in Houston and graduated from the General Surgery Residency program at the UTHealth Houston McGovern Medical School.
He then served for two years as a Staff Physician in the Department of Surgery at UTHealth Houston while simultaneously completing a clinical research fellowship and earning a Master of Science in Clinical Research from McGovern Medical School. Dr. Chamely subsequently completed a Fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at UTHealth Houston McGovern Medical School before joining the faculty at Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital.
Dr. Chamely’s clinical interests include colorectal surgery, acute care general surgery, and surgical education.
