Academics
There is a weekly didactic lecture provided by one of the staff or an outside speaker. The emphasis is on preparation for the oral board exam and the ability to answer pertinent questions. The schedule of topics is based on the core competencies and the current ASCRS textbook.
A monthly scientific meeting is held on the second Wednesday evening of the month. It is often at a local restaurant, but occasionally virtual. The format includes a Morbidity and mortality conference, a journal club, interesting case discussions, and a resident lecture. We also discuss resident research projects and provide feedback.
Each resident is required to work on a resident research project. The project is typically resident-driven with the study questions formulated by the resident under the direction of one of the staff. We strive to have the research projects submitted for presentation at the ASCRS meeting and other local meetings.
