Neurosurgery STAT Consults

Purpose: To clarify Neurosurgery STAT consult procedures

Patients with the following injuries must be evaluated by a member of the Neurosurgery team within 30 minutes of consultation:

• GCS ≤ 12 with head CT evidence of intracranial trauma
• Spine injury with neurologic deficit (when on call for spine)
• Trauma surgeon (faculty) discretion

Please call 713-704-7929 and say “I have a STAT Neurosurgery consult” and provide patient location, diagnosis, and medical record number.

Background

The 30-minute evaluation of the above listed injuries is mandated by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (criteria 5.17) to maintain level 1 trauma center verification.
