High School Summer Research Program Description

Are you a rising junior or senior high school student who is passionate about science, medicine, and research?

McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston offers an exciting opportunity for highly motivated high school students to gain valuable experience in the medical sciences.

About the Program:

Our highly competitive high school summer program lasts 4 weeks from Monday, June 7 to Friday, July 2, 2027. The fee is $4,000 and includes registration and lab coats. Successful applicants will have an immersive experience within a leading academic health science center, allowing them to:

• Participate in research projects: Experience bench science alongside faculty and student mentors on discovery-rich, interdisciplinary research related to medical sciences.
• Develop valuable skills: Enhance your scientific knowledge, learn laboratory techniques, and improve communication and professional development skills.
• Network with experts: Participate in seminars, connect with faculty, medical students, and other healthcare professionals.
• Gain career development advice and guidance

Drs. John Putkey and Phil Carpenter from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology will host virtual Open Houses on Thursday, November 10th and 17th via Zoom to answer questions about the Summer Research Program. Students, parents, and high school counselors are welcome to attend.
