TAVR Program
TAVR Team
The Memorial Hermann Heart & Vascular Institute-Texas Medical Center was the first hospital in Houston and one of the first in the United States to perform the TAVR procedure using the only FDA-approved device, the SAPIEN® valve. This innovative new therapy for critical aortic stenosis now provides lifesaving technology to patients who were previously too sick for traditional surgical aortic valve replacement.
Our affiliated cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons and anesthesiologists have performed many TAVR cases, offering patients who qualify an effective alternative to open heart surgery and a chance for a longer, more active life.
For more information, please call (713) 704-TAVR (8287).
Innovations and Research
In addition to providing this FDA-approved procedure to patients who meet the criteria, the Heart & Vascular Institute-TMC is one of only three sites in Texas involved in the PARTNER II Trial, a research study that enables our affiliated physicians to place a new, smaller version of the SAPIEN® valve in patients who qualify for the procedure.
Working in close collaboration with The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) Medical School, we strive to provide the best service and achieve the best outcomes for all patients. Our academic partnership and our commitment to research means we will continue to offer the most cutting-edge technology that gives patients early access to life-saving treatment.
Committed to Quality Patient Care
Our patient navigator guides each candidate for TAVR through the process, from pre-surgery preparations to post-surgery follow up. Throughout the evaluation and treatment process, we keep referring physicians informed about patient progress. After a patient’s first office visit, referring physicians will receive a summary that includes the initial diagnosis, pending tests and treatment options, and we encourage continued communication about each patient referred to us.
