Program Overview
The Didactic Program
The didactic conferences cover the spectrum of basic, clinical, and endovascular sciences in vascular surgery. While the emphasis is generally on common problems and therapies, the conferences also include rare and unusual clinical conditions. These conferences are a vehicle to ensure the knowledge of unusual clinical conditions is imparted to the residents.
Material is arranged so that the entire body of relevant knowledge is surveyed in two years and focused on topics relevant to the American Board of Surgery certification tests in Vascular Surgery. Each year the department funds each resident to sit for the National In-training Exam of the American Board of Surgery to help prepare for the board exams.
Program Goals
Our Integrated Vascular Surgery Residency Program works to achieve the following goals for every resident:
- Train the next generation of experts focused on vascular surgery, endovascular therapy, and vascular imaging.
- Emphasize scholarly activity with each resident publishing at least one peer-reviewed manuscript during their five-year training.
- Ensure a 100% American Board of Surgery (ABS) Vascular Surgery Board pass rate within five years of program completion, encouraging RPVI certification before graduation to expedite board certification.
- Equip residents with the skills to practice general vascular surgery without any limitations due to their training background. We expect them to be as proficient as vascular fellows in both endovascular and open vascular surgery.
To assess these goals, we track ACGME milestones, board pass rates, publication statistics, and residents’ achievement of surgical skills milestones.
