A successful program in family medicine introduces medical students to the principles of family medicine, while providing the essential clinical skills and training they will find useful in whichever speciality they ultimately decide to pursue.

Our mission is to train the best family physicians for the future. We strive to train family physicians with the skills to care for the whole person, their family and community. We provide service to patients of diverse cultural, ethnic and economic backgrounds, teaching the residents to treat all patients with dignity regardless of their patient’s background.

Community Health Program

The Community Health Program is the functional unit in the Department of Family & Community Medicine that serves as the liaison between the Department and the Harris Health System (HHS) Community Health Program (CHP) and activities at the Lyndon Baines Johnson Hospital (LBJ).
