2022 Applications for the Pruessner Scholarship are closed. Qualified applicants: Please apply next year.
The Harris County Academy of Family Physicians is accepting applications for the Harold T. Pruessner, MD, Medical Student Scholarship. The deadline is May 20.
Applicants must be a third-year medical student in good standing, have a strong interest in practicing family medicine as their specialty, and although not a requirement, special consideration may be given to students considering practicing in medically underserved areas.
Interviews with a member of the scholarship committee can be arranged by contacting Norma Garcia, assistant to scholarship committee chair Michael Altman, MD, at 713-500-7604. After contact, students will be advised on the process of submitting transcripts and a letter of recommendation for the Office of Student Affairs. In addition, a less than one-page personal statement and a note or letter of recommendation from an academic professor and/or physician in private practice (preferably in Family Medicine) can also be submitted.
Scholarship winners will be notified at the end of July, and recipients will be recognized at the Harris County Academy of Family Physicians meeting in September. Scholarship funds are contingent on matching into a Family Medicine residency program.
The Harris County Academy of Family Physicians established the scholarship in honor of Harold T. Pruessner, in 1995, through the TAFP Foundation.
