CNG Research

The Center for Neuroimmunology and Glial Biology (CNG) at the Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine advances discovery at the intersection of neuroscience and immunology. The Center is dedicated to understanding how glial and immune cells shape neural circuit function in health and disease, and how neuroimmune signaling contributes to neurological, neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders. CNG brings together multidisciplinary investigators to uncover fundamental mechanisms of neuroimmunology and translate these discoveries into therapeutic strategies for disorders including neurodegeneration, epilepsy, metabolic disease, addiction, brain tumors, and neuroinflammatory conditions.

The CNG currently has nine primary faculty members whose research collectively advances the understanding of neuroimmune and glial mechanisms across diverse neurological conditions. Across laboratories, investigators employ advanced experimental approaches — including genetic and viral-based mouse models, single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, multi-omics profiling, in vivo imaging, electrophysiology, behavioral analysis, and computational methods — to bridge molecular mechanisms with neural circuit function and disease phenotypes. Each faculty member leads independent research projects while contributing to the Center’s collaborative and interdisciplinary mission.
