Dr. Flores is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Geriatric and Palliative Medicine at UTHealth McGovern Medical School. In this leadership role, she is deeply committed to advancing medical education through innovative, compassionate, and inclusive approaches to caring for older adults.
She earned her medical degree from Saint Matthew’s University School of Medicine in the Grand Cayman Islands and holds a Master’s in Health Service Administration from Saint Joseph’s College of Maine. Dr. Flores completed her fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at UTHealth and recently earned an Executive Doctor of Education (EdD) in Professional Leadership with an emphasis in Health Science Education. She is triple board-certified in Internal Medicine, Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and Geriatric Medicine.
Dr. Flores’ clinical and academic interests include geriatric medicine, hospice and palliative care, and the often-overlooked areas of sexuality, intimacy, and aging. She is also a strong advocate for integrating the medical humanities and narrative medicine into health professions education. By incorporating storytelling, reflective writing, and patient-centered narratives into her teaching, she helps learners develop empathy, self-awareness, and deeper connections with patients.
A dedicated educator, Dr. Flores thoughtfully blends her clinical expertise with a holistic, humanistic approach to training. She is passionate about preparing future clinicians to care for aging populations with empathy, cultural humility, and a strong understanding of the complex, lived experiences of older adults.
