Dr. Amit K. Correa is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Hematology at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. He specializes in malignant hematology, including leukemia, lymphoma, and plasma cell disorders, as well as benign hematology, with a focus on bleeding and clotting disorders, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), and bone marrow failure.
Dr. Correa earned his medical degree from St. John’s Medical College in Bangalore, India, where he graduated among the top 10% of his class. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Mount Sinai West in New York, where he later served as Chief Resident at East Tennessee State University. He pursued a fellowship in Medical Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center, followed by a Hematology and Cellular Therapy fellowship at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Board-certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology, Dr. Correa has a strong academic and clinical background. He has led malignant hematology tumor boards and participated in sarcoma and genitourinary oncology tumor boards. He has also been actively involved in research, with a particular interest in mechanisms of resistance to EGFR inhibitors in lung cancer and the impact of triple therapy in patients with HCV cirrhosis and coronary artery disease.
In addition to his clinical and research contributions, Dr. Correa is passionate about medical education. He has delivered lectures on leukemia, lymphoma, and hematology microscopy for medical students, residents, and fellows. He is a member of the American Society of Hematology (ASH) and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).
