Dr. Bilal Zafar is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston). Dr. Zafar completed his medical education at Shifa College of Medicine in Islamabad, Pakistan, before pursuing his Internal Medicine residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. During his residency, he was honored with the Best Resident of the Year award for two consecutive academic years (2018-2019, 2019-2020) and ranked as the top scorer in the in-training examination for three consecutive years. He also served as Chief Resident of the Internal Medicine Residency Program during the 2020-2021 academic year.
In 2020, Dr. Zafar was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, a recognition that reflects a commitment to professionalism, leadership, scholarship, research, and community service. His dedication to clinical excellence and patient care continued through fellowship training, where he earned the Best Fellow in Critical Care Medicine Award for the 2023-2024 academic year.
At UTHealth Houston, Dr. Zafar focuses on advancing knowledge and practice in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, with a particular interest in critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Units (ICUs), Obstructive Lung Diseases, Pleural Diseases, and Lung Cancer. He remains committed to the education and mentorship of medical students, residents, and fellows, fostering the next generation of leaders in medicine.
