Dr. Eleni Tiniakou is a board-certified rheumatologist and a nationally recognized expert in autoimmune muscle diseases. She joins McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston as the founding Director of the new Myositis Clinic, where she will lead a multidisciplinary program dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, and research of inflammatory myopathies, including dermatomyositis, polymyositis, and inclusion body myositis. Dr. Tiniakou earned her medical degree from the University of Athens in Greece and completed her internal medicine residency at Bridgeport Hospital/Yale New Haven, where she stayed an additional year as chief resident. She then pursued a fellowship in rheumatology at Johns Hopkins University, where she developed a strong clinical and research focus on myositis and connective tissue diseases. Prior to joining UTHealth Houston, Dr. Tiniakou served on the faculty at Johns Hopkins, where she contributed to clinical and translational research on autoantigen-specific T cells and mentored trainees in the field of rheumatology. Her work has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals, and she is actively involved in national collaborative efforts to advance care for patients with autoimmune myopathies.
