Sruthi Kapliyil Subramanian, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Interventional Gastroenterology in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. She is part of the Interventional Gastroenterology program (iGUT) and specializes in advanced endoscopic procedures for complex gastrointestinal and pancreaticobiliary diseases.
Dr. Subramanian completed her medical degree at Government Medical College, Kottayam, Kerala, India. She subsequently pursued postgraduate training at McGovern Medical School, completing her Internal Medicine residency, Gastroenterology fellowship, and Advanced Endoscopy fellowship. Following completion of her advanced training, she joined the faculty at UTHealth Houston in 2024.
Her clinical practice focuses on advanced and therapeutic endoscopy, including ERCP, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), and minimally invasive endoscopic management of pancreaticobiliary disorders, gastrointestinal malignancies, and complex luminal diseases. Dr. Subramanian serves as Director of Interventional Gastroenterology at Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital and provides care across several hospitals within the Memorial Hermann Health System.
In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Subramanian is actively involved in graduate medical education. She serves as Associate Program Director for the Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition Fellowship and Assistant Program Director for the Interventional Gastroenterology Fellowship at McGovern Medical School. She is deeply committed to mentoring trainees and advancing endoscopy education. Dr. Subramanian is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She has received several recognitions for her teaching and mentorship, including the Rising Mentor of the Year Award, the Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award, and the Mountain Mover Award from the Interventional Gastroenterology program at UTHealth.
Her academic interests include Pancreatobiliary diseases, endoscopic innovation, artificial intelligence in endoscopy, and improving outcomes following advanced endoscopic procedures. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and abstracts in leading journals, including Gastroenterology, The American Journal of Gastroenterology, and Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
Outside of her professional responsibilities, Dr. Subramanian enjoys music, culinary pursuits, and spending quality time with her toddler.
