Paulino and Wong Earn Fellow Status from the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine

Rex Alvin Paulino, MD, AGSF, and Angelique Wong, MD, of UTHealth Houston, recently earned the designation Fellow of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (FAAHPM). This is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a member. The Academy is the professional organization for physicians specializing in hospice and palliative medicine, nurses, and other healthcare providers.

Dr. Paulino is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Joan and Stanford Alexander Division of Geriatric and Palliative Medicine at UTHealth Houston. He completed a 2-year clinician-educator fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, followed by fellowship training in Hospice and Palliative Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Dr. Paulino has served as the Associate Program Director for the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship at UTHealth Houston since 2018 and transitioned to Program Director in May 2025. He was recognized by the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM) as an Emerging Leader in Hospice and Palliative Medicine in 2024. He is a Fellow of the American Geriatrics Society (AGS) and now a Fellow of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Dr. Paulino is the Co-Director of the Geriatric and Palliative Medicine Scholarly Concentrations Program and has been training medical students, residents, and fellows since 2018.

Angelique Wong, MD

Angelique Wong, MD

Dr. Wong is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Joan and Stanford Alexander Division of Geriatric and Palliative Medicine at UTHealth Houston. She completed residency at the Memorial Family Medicine Residency Program in Sugar Land, TX, followed by a fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine at the MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Wong is the Co-Director of the Required Rotation in Geriatric and Palliative Medicine for MS3 and the Co-Director of the Geriatric and Palliative Medicine Scholarly Concentrations Program.

Paulino and Wong will receive the designation at the Annual Assembly of Hospice and Palliative Care in San Diego, California, on Saturday, March 7, 2026, joined by colleagues working in the field of hospice and palliative care.

Dr. Paulino and Dr. Wong have demonstrated a significant commitment to the field of hospice and palliative care, and we celebrate their achievements.
