Alexandre Elias Malek, MD, MPH

Biography

Alexandre Elias Malek, MD, MPH, is an Associate Professor of Medicine and is double board-certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases. He graduated from the Lebanese University Medical School and completed internal medicine residency and training at the Université Saint Joseph in Beirut and Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris-Sorbonne University, France. Dr. Malek completed his infectious diseases fellowship (immunocompromised track) at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and UT MD Anderson in 2020, followed by a fellowship in transplant and oncology infectious diseases at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He earned a certificate in the Strategic Healthcare Leadership Program from Johns Hopkins Carey Business School, and a Master of Public Health from Louisiana State University Shreveport, in addition to a physician educator and healthcare management from UTHealth and the Clinical Safety and Effectiveness program (CS&E) from UT-MDACC.

Patient care is his top priority, and he is dedicated to providing the very best care by preventing and treating complex cases. In his current role as a Medical Director of Transplant Infectious Diseases at Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center, Dr. Malek’s passion lies in focusing on infections, including opportunistic infections caused by bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi that can affect solid organ transplant recipients, oncology patients, and those with weakened immune systems. Dr. Malek has contributed to the medical literature and has published over 65 peer-reviewed articles. He has also participated in national discussions regarding emerging antimicrobial therapies, and his work combines clinical excellence, research, education, and leadership. Dr. Malek believes that combining clinical and administrative skills is essential for a top-tier academic healthcare center concentrating on patient care and clinical efficiency.
