Summer Research Internship Program
The Allergy and Immunology Research Center offers a Research Internship Program under the guidance of Dr. Mahboobeh Mahdavinia. The program is an exceptional opportunity for McGovern Medical School students to join our team, work with experienced researchers, and gain experience in advanced clinical and translational research.

2025 Award Recipient
Nicole Koulov, MS2
Association Between Clinical Features of Eczema and Outgrowing of Food Allergies in Pediatric Patients
Nicole is passionate about research that directly impacts patient care and helps improve health outcomes. This past summer, she explored the connection between eczema and the likelihood of outgrowing food allergies in children while working with the Division of Allergy and Immunology.
She shared that this experience strengthened her critical thinking, enhanced her problem-solving skills, and deepened her understanding of the clinical research process.
Her abstract, “Association Between Clinical Features of Eczema and Outgrowing of Food Allergies in Pediatric Patients,” was selected for an oral presentation at ACAAI 2025.

We’re proud to celebrate Nicole Koulov for her outstanding work under the mentorship of Dr. Mahboobeh Mahdavinia within the NIH-funded FORWARD Study.
Her research, which uncovered how eczema patterns relate to children’s ability to outgrow food allergies, was selected for an oral presentation at the 2025 ACAAI Annual Meeting — and has already garnered national headlines!
