
Brian Skaug, MD, PhD

Biography
Dr. Skaug received his medical and graduate training in the Medical Scientist Training Program at UT Southwestern Medical School at Dallas, receiving an MD/PhD dual degree in 2013. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at UT Southwestern from 2013-2016, followed by Rheumatology Fellowship training at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) McGovern Medical School from 2016-2018. He joined the Rheumatology faculty at UTHealth in 2018. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology and is a member of the American College of Rheumatology. He provides Rheumatology care and consultation at the UT Professional Building and Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center and at Lyndon Baines Johnson Hospital within the Harris Health system. Dr. Skaug’s research is focused on identifying mechanisms that drive dysfunction of the immune system in the autoimmune disease scleroderma. His research has been supported by the Arthritis National Research Foundation and by UTHealth’s Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences.
