Sepideh Saroukhani, MD, PhD

Biography

Dr. Sepideh Saroukhani joined the Division of Clinical and Translational Sciences (DCTS), Department of Internal Medicine, at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) McGovern Medical School as an Assistant Professor in January 2022. She also has a secondary faculty appointment in the Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design (BERD) component of the Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences (CCTS) at UTHealth. Dr. Saroukhani obtained her PhD in Epidemiology with a minor in Biostatistics from UTHealth School of Public Health in 2021. Her medical education includes a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the Qazvin University of Medical Science in 2010. Dr. Saroukhani has more than 12 years of experience in medical and epidemiologic research and collaborating with clinical and translational scientists of various specialties such as cardiovascular disease, stroke, psychiatry, pediatrics, and pharmacology. As part of her activities in DCTS, Dr. Saroukhani collaborates with faculty at UTHealth who are developing and conducting clinical and translational research and provides support related to study design, statistical analysis plan, sample size justification, and data analysis. In addition, she participates in writing and reviewing manuscripts and grant proposals. Currently, she collaborates with faculty in the departments of Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Medicine, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Pediatrics, and Neurology at UTHealth.

Along with her collaborative research, Dr. Saroukhani’s current research interest lies in evaluating gene-environment Interactions about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and its severity. Her research interests also include global maternal and child health, stroke and cardiovascular disease risk factors, and quality of care. She is a member of the Society of Epidemiological Research (SER), the International Society for Autism Research (INSAR), and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS)-Environmental Epidemiology of Autism Research Network (EEARN).
