Rotations
The Sleep Medicine fellowship at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center is organized under the Department of Pulmonary Critical Care and Sleep Medicine but functions in affiliation with the departments of Internal Medicine, Neurology, Otolaryngology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry and Family Medicine for a well-rounded experience. A full 12 months will be devoted to inpatient and ambulatory clinical experiences in sleep. Sleep fellows participate in the interdisciplinary care of patients of all ages which will incorporate aspects of family medicine, psychiatry, neurology, internal medicine, epidemiology, surgery, pediatrics and basic science. They also participate in teaching, leadership and the administration of the program. You will rotate through three American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) accredited sleep laboratories: the Memorial Hermann Hospital Sleep Center, the TIRR Sleep center and the M.D Anderson Cancer Center Sleep Center. Ambulatory experience will include 3 half-day clinics each week at the Memorial Hermann and the Harris Health (Smith) Sleep Clinics where you will develop a continuous relationship with patients for whom you will provide sleep medicine care. When rotating through TIRR and MDA hospitals, an opportunity to participate their respective clinics will be available.
