Dr. Anjail Z. Sharrief, MD, MPH, runs the Stroke Clinic and Stroke Transitions Education and Prevention (STEP) Clinical Program, which she founded in 2014. Her clinical interests are general neurology and outpatient stroke prevention.

After graduating from Smith College with a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, Dr. Sharrief-Ibrahim accepted a position as a post-baccalaureate research trainee at the National Institute of Mental Health in Bethesda, Maryland. She received her medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City and completed residency training in neurology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, where she was chief resident from 2010 to 2011. She received a Master of Public Health from The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2012.

Dr. Sharrief-Ibrahim’s research focuses on addressing health disparities and health outcomes in stroke survivors. She is certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and has been funded by a career award and intramural grants on novel health care delivery models for secondary stroke prevention. She is passionate about mentoring undergraduates, medical students, and residents to pursue academic careers in the neurosciences.

Collaboration with Referring Physicians

Physicians affiliated with UTHealth Houston Neurosciences engage referring physicians in the care of their patients, keeping them informed about patient progress throughout the evaluation and treatment process. After a patient’s treatment, referring physicians receive a summary and a plan for follow-up. Our physicians encourage continued communication about each patient.
