Physician Awards
On April 30, Dr. Manish Shah, a pediatric neurosurgeon, was awarded the Benjy Brooks, MD Outstanding Clinical Faculty Award! This award, established in 1991 by the McGovern Medical School Alumni Association, recognizes an outstanding faculty member or resident whose contributions to clinical services in both quantity and quality, greatly enhance the educational program by serving as a role model for students. This award honors the late Dr. Brooks, who was the first female board-certified pediatric surgeon in the United States. Until her death in 1998, she remained active in the life of the school and was a dedicated student mentor.
Dr. Shah has used innovative approaches (like Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy) to treat pediatric neurological disorders to change the lives of many children. He is always ready to help, kind, compassionate, and is most deserving of this prestigious award. We are so proud!
The month of May is designated as the “Teaching Excellence” month at McGovern Medical School. This is a time to recognize the faculty on campus that go above and beyond to mentor the next generation of physicians and surgeons. We are proud to share that three of our team members have been awarded a Dean’s Excellence in Teaching Award this year!
Congratulations are in order for Dr. Alex Choi and Dr. Ying Liu, both of whom are being honored as noteworthy teachers in the Neurosurgery department. Dr. Manish Shah has also won this award, representing UTHealth Neurosciences in the Pediatric Surgery division. We know how important it is to foster high-quality, outcomes-focused providers, and we are ecstatic that UTHealth recognizes the work of these dedicated teacher leaders.
