Ai Sumida, MD, is a fellowship trained epileptologist who cares for adult and senior patients. She has expertise in presurgical evaluation for epilepsy treatment and has additional experience treating women with epilepsy.

Dr. Sumida received her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York in 2012, and completed residency training in neurology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in 2016. She went on to complete fellowship training in epilepsy at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami in 2017. She is certied by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Dr. Sumida is an active member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Epilepsy Society, the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society, and the American Clinical Magnetoencephalography Society. Her patients value her attention to detail and how she listens to and addresses their concerns.

Collaboration with Referring Physicians

Physicians affiliated with UTHealth Houston Neurosciences engage referring physicians in the care of their patients, keeping them informed about patient progress throughout the evaluation and treatment process. After a patient’s treatment, referring physicians receive a summary and a plan for follow-up. Our physicians encourage continued communication about each patient.
