Burish Co-Chairs the AHS Scientific Program Committee

Mark J. Burish, MD, PhD, associate professor in the Vivian L. Smith Department of Neurosurgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, recently served as co-chair of the American Headache Society’s Scientific Program Committee. The committee was charged with developing a leading edge scientific program for the organization’s 66th Annual Scientific Meeting, which was held in June 2024 in San Diego, California.
The program is designed to comply with Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) guidelines. Burish previously served on the committee and was asked to be co-chair for the 2023 and 2024 meetings, with Christina Szperka, MD, MS, director of the Pediatric Headache Program and a pediatric neurologist at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Burish directs the Will Erwin Headache Research Center at McGovern Medical School. Established with a $20 million pledge from the Will Erwin Headache Research Foundation, the center includes experts dedicated to the study of cluster headaches and other debilitating headaches and facial pain diseases.
