Furr Stimming Named Assistant Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs

The Office of Admissions and Student Affairs at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston has named Erin Furr Stimming, MD, professor of neurology and Memorial Hermann Chair, as assistant dean for admissions and student affairs. Furr Stimming has clinical expertise in evaluating and treating patients with Huntington’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, atypical parkinsonian syndromes, focal and generalized dystonia, essential tremor, and spasticity.

After earning her medical degree at Chicago Medical School in 2002, she completed neurology residency training and a fellowship in movement disorders at McGovern Medical School. She joined the neurology faculty at UTHealth Houston in 2007 and is the founder and director of the institution’s Huntington’s Disease Society of America Center of Excellence, which collaborates with clinics throughout Texas.

A fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Neurological Association, Furr Stimming has received the UTHealth Houston Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award consecutively for more than a decade. She has been recognized with the Dupont Master Clinical Teaching Award, the Leonard Tow Award in Humanism and Excellence in Teaching, the Huntington Study Group Outstanding Instructor Award, the Texas Neurological Society Lifetime Achievement Award, and the American Academy of Neurology A.B. Baker Teaching Award.

She serves as chair of the Medical Advisory Board for the Houston Area Parkinson Society, is a member of the local Huntington’s Disease Society of America affiliate, and is a past president of the Houston Neurologic Society and Texas Neurologic Society. She is the current chair of the Texas Neurological Society Education Committee. Furr-Stimming is a founder of the Huntington Study Group’s ENGAGE-HD program, which began in 2023 and is designed to attract, nurture, and educate the next generation of Huntington’s disease practitioners and encourage research.
