Biography

Dr. Kelli Burroughs, M.D., F.A.C.O.G., is a highly accomplished, award-winning, board-certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist who was recently appointed Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs and Patient Experience at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston. In this role, responsibilities include mentoring and training new physicians and providers, overseeing and managing patient experience initiatives, and serving as Chief Medical Officer for office practices related to standardization, quality improvement, and clinical pathways. Originally from Camden, SC, she graduated from Spelman College before earning her medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina and completing her residency at the Houston Methodist Ob/Gyn program.

Dr. Burroughs’ career is marked by significant leadership roles. She was elected Chief of Staff at Memorial Hermann Sugar Land, becoming the first African American physician and the second female to hold the position. She also served as Department Chairman of Ob/Gyn at Memorial Hermann Sugar Land for a decade, where she spearheaded initiatives to improve maternal health outcomes. These efforts focus on reducing racial and geographic disparities, as well as addressing complications like preeclampsia and maternal hemorrhage.

A dedicated advocate for maternal health, Dr. Burroughs currently co-chairs the Maternal Subcommittee for the Southeast Texas Regional Advisory Council, working at the state level to combat maternal morbidity and mortality. Dr. Burroughs is a national voice for women’s healthcare and has contributed as a medical correspondent for major media outlets, including Time, Forbes, USA Today, and Fox News. She has spoken at events for major organizations, such as Chevron, discussing critical topics from maternity to menopause.

After 20 years of offering the full spectrum of obstetrics and gynecology services, Dr. Burroughs now specializes in office gynecology, focusing on the comprehensive treatment of perimenopause and menopause. Her passion lies in helping women navigate this transition while maintaining the best possible quality of life.

Dr. Burroughs resides in Sugar Land, TX, with her husband, Anthony, and their son, Ellison. Throughout her career, she has earned multiple accolades, including being named a 2025 Connolly Top Doctor, Female Physician of the Year, and Best in Sugar Land. In her free time, Dr. Burroughs enjoys spending quality time with her family.
