Division of Ob/Gyn Hospitalists

The Ob/Gyn Hospitalist Division within McGovern Medical School at UTHealth is a rapidly expanding program that provides direct patient care at multiple sites within the Memorial Hermann healthcare system. The program offers a variety of services that include patient evaluations within the OB Emergency Department, obstetrical management of unassigned L&D patients, GYN care for unassigned patients who present to the ER and need consultation or management, private OB call coverage and L&D support, surgical assistance, and OB emergency rapid response. We take great pride in our role of elevating the standard of care of women within our facilities and improving safety and clinical outcomes.

Our physicians work independently at some sites while also supervising medical students, residents, fellows, and physician assistants or nurse practitioners at others. Our affiliation with McGovern Medical School ensures that we have state of the art care capabilities as well as readily available sub-specialty support, when needed. Our facilities range from relatively low volume and low acuity to high volume and high acuity sites and shifts typically span 12-24 hours. Our physicians are trained to skillfully manage a variety of OB and GYN emergency situations and are able to participate in clinical research. Physicians are also encouraged to be active members within the Society of Ob/Gyn Hospitalists. Furthermore, they also have the ability to manage some patients in an out-patient, clinic setting with GYN surgery opportunities.

Our physicians also have the unique opportunity to assist in the training of our Ob/Gyn Hospitalist Fellows. This program offers both one and two year clinical tracts and its goal is to produce highly qualified, future Ob/Gyn Hospitalists who can help promote and develop this growing area of specialized care and focused practice as well as assist physicians who might be at a point of indecision or transition with regards to their careers, future training, or employment
