Biography

Jonathan M. España, MD, is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist with more than two decades of experience providing exceptional, patient-centered care for women.

Recognized for his compassionate approach and commitment to clinical excellence, Dr. España combines advanced surgical expertise with individualized care to help women achieve their best possible health outcomes. He believes in building lasting relationships with his patients through open communication, trust and shared decision-making, empowering women to make informed choices throughout every stage of life.

Dr. España provides comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic care, caring for women from adolescence through menopause and beyond. His clinical interests include preventive women’s health, pregnancy care, contraception, abnormal uterine bleeding, uterine fibroids, endometriosis, pelvic pain, ovarian cysts and other complex gynecologic conditions. He has extensive experience performing minimally invasive and robotic-assisted gynecologic surgery, utilizing advanced surgical techniques that help reduce postoperative pain, shorten recovery time and allow patients to return more quickly to the activities that matter most to them.

Dr. España earned his medical degree from the Universidad Central de Venezuela before completing a preliminary residency in general surgery. He continued his postgraduate training in the United States, completing his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He later pursued advanced fellowship training in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, focusing on robotic and laparoscopic techniques. Throughout his education and training, Dr. España earned numerous honors recognizing his academic achievement, leadership and dedication to patient care, including the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award, recognition as an Outstanding Resident Role Model and multiple academic distinctions for excellence throughout medical school and residency.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. España has made significant contributions to medical education and research throughout his career. He has served as a clinical instructor, mentoring resident physicians and sharing his expertise in both obstetrics and gynecologic surgery. His scholarly work includes numerous peer-reviewed publications, authoring chapters, and presentations at national and international scientific meetings, reflecting his longstanding commitment to advancing the field of women’s health through research, innovation and education. His research has explored topics including minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, surgical outcomes, critical care, burn medicine and translational science, demonstrating the breadth of his clinical and academic interests.
