Vishal P. Patel, MD, FACOG, is an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences at UTHealth Houston. A board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist, Dr. Patel is dedicated to helping women achieve lifelong health through compassionate, individualized care. He works closely with each patient to provide guidance, education, and treatment plans that support their health and well-being at every stage of life.
Dr. Patel provides comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic care, including preventive wellness visits, pregnancy care, family planning, management of menstrual disorders, gynecologic procedures, and treatment for a wide range of women’s health conditions. He takes a collaborative approach to care, working closely with each patient to develop individualized treatment plans that reflect their unique health goals, lifestyle, and preferences.
Dr. Patel has a special clinical interest in obstetrics, including the care of women with high-risk pregnancies who may benefit from a higher level of monitoring and individualized care. He also has expertise in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and is committed to using advanced surgical techniques whenever appropriate to help patients recover more quickly, experience less pain and return to their daily lives sooner.
In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Patel is committed to advancing women’s health through medical education, quality improvement, and clinical research. He has served on hospital quality assessment and performance committees focused on improving patient safety and clinical outcomes and has mentored resident physicians throughout his career. His dedication to teaching has been recognized through multiple Volunteer Faculty of the Year awards, reflecting his passion for educating and supporting the next generation of obstetrician-gynecologists.
Dr. Patel has also contributed to clinical research, serving as the primary investigator and first author of research evaluating mid-trimester ultrasound findings and fetal growth. His work has been presented at national scientific meetings and reflects his commitment to advancing evidence-based care for women and their families. Beyond his clinical practice, he has participated in international medical service initiatives in Guatemala, India, and Malawi, providing care to underserved communities while helping educate future physicians.
Dr. Patel earned his medical degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine, where he graduated with distinction in global health. He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology before becoming board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
