Andrea D. Harris, MD, is a pediatric cardiologist at the Children’s Heart Institute (CHI) and an assistant professor at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. She also serves as a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Harris is board-certified in both general pediatrics and pediatric cardiology. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Austin College before completing her medical degree at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She went on to complete her pediatric residency at the same institution. She later pursued fellowship training in Pediatric Cardiology at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, where she developed focused expertise in advanced cardiac imaging and congenital heart disease.
She holds multiple clinical appointments across the Texas Medical Center and Harris Health System, including Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital, and MD Anderson Cancer Center. Her clinical work spans echocardiography (transthoracic and transesophageal), electrocardiography, Holter interpretation, cardiology consultation services, and general outpatient pediatric cardiology care.
A dedicated educator, Dr. Harris contributes extensively to medical student and fellow training. Her teaching roles include case simulation workshops for pediatric cardiology fellows, weekly problem-based learning for first-year medical students, and guiding cardiology fellows in imaging preparation for surgical conferences. She also leads didactic “Echo Laser Tag” imaging review sessions and teaches cardiac exam skills and ECG interpretation to family medicine residents.
Dr. Harris is actively involved in service to McGovern Medical School through participation on the CHI Cardiology Discussion Committee, supporting collaborative decision making around patient care. Her research contributions include peer-reviewed publications in congenital heart disease, septal defect management, and perioperative bleeding in pediatric cardiac surgery. She is a member of national professional organizations including the American Society of Echocardiography and the American College of Cardiology.
