CONNECT Pediatrics Mentorship Program

Mentorship, community, and a home base in pediatrics for Texas medical students

Pediatrics is a dynamic, extremely rewarding, and innovative specialty dedicated to the health and well-being of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. Every medical student interested in pediatrics deserves access to meaningful mentorship and opportunities to explore the specialty. The Department of Pediatrics at McGovern Medical School has outstanding medical students, trainees, and faculty that are pleased to serve as key connections to their future in pediatric research, advocacy, education, leadership, and clinical care.

Medical students attending institutions without affiliated pediatric residency programs may have fewer opportunities for pediatric mentorship, networking, and career exploration. The Collaborative Outreach for Networking and Navigating Education, Career, and Training (CONNECT) Pediatrics Program was created to help bridge that gap by providing mentorship, career guidance, networking, and educational opportunities through a statewide collaborative network.

Who can apply

CONNECT Pediatrics is open to first-year medical students who are in good academic standing and enrolled at any Texas medical school. Priority consideration is given to those whose primary campus is not affiliated with a pediatric residency program. These include, but are not limited to:

• The Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine at the University of Houston
• Burnett School of Medicine at Texas Christian University
• University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine
• Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine
• The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine
• University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth/Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNT Health’s TCOM)
• The School of Medicine at The University of Texas at Tyler (SOM at UTTyler)
