Biography

Ann Marshburn, MD, FAAP, is a board-certified pediatrician and pediatric hospital medicine physician. She is an associate professor of pediatrics in the Pediatric Hospital Medicine Division and is the program director for the Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship program at UTHealth Houston. She also serves as the medical director of the Pediatric Oncology Service at Children’s Memorial Hermann.

Dr. Marshburn earned her medical degree (MD) at Baylor College of Medicine in 2008. She then completed her pediatrics residency at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital in 2011. Following her training, she worked for several years as a pediatric oncology hospitalist at Texas Children’s Hospital before moving to UTHealth Houston and Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital to help build the newly created Pediatric Hospital Medicine Division in 2016.

Her clinical interests include medical education, quality improvement, and programmatic development. She was instrumental in developing and building both the pediatric oncology service and the pediatric hospital medicine fellowship and continues to play critical roles within each program. As fellowship program director, she plays a pivotal role in shaping curriculum, coaching fellows in scholarship and leadership, and championing interdisciplinary education. She has published and presented her work in curricular development, quality improvement, and oncology research nationally and internationally.

An accomplished teacher, Dr. Marshburn has earned several teaching awards. She is frequently engaged in medical student and resident education, integrating educational initiatives with the compassionate, evidence-based, and family-centered care she provides to hospitalized children. Dr. Marshburn is deeply committed to training the next generation of pediatric hospitalists and advancing the delivery of high-quality, equitable care for all hospitalized children.
