Bibek Raj Bista, MBBS, MPH, MA, is a board-certified pediatric intensivist and an assistant professor in the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. With a dual background in medicine and public health, he brings a strong commitment to academic excellence, clinical research, and medical education.
Dr. Bista earned his medical degree from B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Nepal and later completed a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology at UTHealth Houston. He completed his pediatric residency training at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at UTHealth Houston, reflecting a comprehensive trajectory of clinical training and academic development.
Dr. Bista’s research interests span critical care outcomes, infectious diseases, diagnostic innovations, and pediatric trauma. He has served as site principal investigator for multiple longitudinal and cohort studies, including work on post-intensive care syndrome in pediatrics (PICS-p), septic shock–induced acute kidney injury, and pediatric trauma epidemiology during COVID-19. He has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in journals such as the Indian Journal of Pediatrics, BMJ Case Reports, Journal of Forensic Sciences, and ISRN Oncology. His scholarship has also been featured in oral presentations at leading national and international conferences, including the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
In medical education, Dr. Bista serves as an associate program director, mentor, committee member, and lecturer. He is actively involved in the Medical Student Admissions Committee and the former Faculty Senate at McGovern Medical School. His teaching contributions have been recognized with the Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award in 2023 and 2025.
Beyond medicine, Dr. Bista completed a Master of Arts in Sanskrit in 2024 and is currently pursuing doctoral studies in the field. He presented his research at the 19th World Sanskrit Conference in 2025, reflecting his broad intellectual interests and dedication to scholarship across disciplines.
