Kevin Rix, PhD, MPH, is an assistant professor of pediatrics dual appointed with the School of Public Health at UTHealth Houston.
Based on the Dallas Regional Campus in Health Promotion and Behavioral Science, Dr. Rix’s research interests are injury and violence prevention; implementation science of injury and violence prevention programming; and injury epidemiology. His research focuses primarily on the relationship of space-time factors and injury risk across mechanisms of injury. Dr. Rix has a practiced-based perspective as he spent seven years running an injury and violence prevention program at a level one trauma center in Austin, TX. During his time in the hospital, he was the preceptor for many UTHealth Houston students completing their practicum experience in injury prevention.
Dr. Rix received his Bachelors in Public Health from Syracuse University, a Masters of Public Health in Social and Behavioral Science from Boston University, and his PhD from UTHealth Houston. He completed his PhD work in Behavioral Science with a minor in epidemiology and a breadth in injury and violence on the Austin Regional Campus. Before coming to UTHealth Houston, he completed a two-year post-doctoral research fellowship with the University of Pennsylvania and the Penn Injury Science Center.
